Summer has begun, school is over and the time to go on vacation has arrived. As it is the holiday season, young people still studying often look for temporary work, while those who have college graduates are now looking for their first permanent job.
According to last year’s figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the youth labor force typically increases significantly between April and July each year.
According to the BLS, 55% of youth (people aged 16 to 24) were employed in the United States in July 2023. The youth labor force grew by 2.2 million, or 10.4%, from April (21.5 million) to July (23.7 million) last year.

The most in-demand jobs in the US during the summer
Since it is a holiday period, the jobs with the greatest demand are related to vacations, camping or other activities that are carried out during the summer season. Here are the most common jobs, according to job website Indeed.
camp counselor
National average wage: $16.22 an hour
Key activities include overseeing camp programs, monitoring campers’ safety, and mediating any disputes. They are responsible for providing educational and recreational activities and often work outdoors.

National average wage: $18.03 an hour
Summer associates are usually law students hoping to gain experience working in a law firm. Their duties include assisting in mock trials, preparing legal documents, observing or assisting in court proceedings and more.

Most places with public pools require lifeguards on duty to ensure visitors are safe while swimming.
Teacher or teacher
National average wage: $20.30 an hour
During the holiday period, teachers or tutors are wanted for remedial courses or summer courses in various subjects.
Electrical engineer
National average wage: $42.19 an hour
Their functions include design, development and testing of electrical systems and equipment, ensuring that they meet technical and safety standards.
